How many calories are in a plate of Gulf food?

Pick the dish, set the portion, and choose how it was cooked. The numbers update as you go, and every figure below is an estimate — a real plate is the only thing that knows exactly what is on it.

Estimated calories

791 kcal

Likely range 670–910 · for about 452 g on the plate

  • Protein45 g

This is a rough estimate

It is built from typical quantities, not from your plate. Rice served, cut of meat, skin, and how generous the pot was with oil each move the total by a lot — which is why a range is shown rather than a single confident number.

For the accurate figure, photograph the plate

Thaya reads your actual plate from a photo and gives you an editable calorie and macro breakdown in seconds, instead of you matching it to the nearest average. It launches on iPhone and Android this week.

How these numbers are worked out

Each dish is composed from its parts, using per-100g reference values for the ingredients as eaten. Nothing here is a single memorised number for a whole dish, because no such number exists.

Common questions

How many calories are in a plate of chicken kabsa?

A medium plate with chicken thigh and skin works out at roughly 791 kcal, with a likely range of about 670 to 910. Swap to skinless breast and it drops by around 96; a large plate adds around 276. The rice is the biggest single factor, not the chicken.

Why do you show a range instead of one number?

Because one number would be false precision. Home and restaurant portions of the same dish differ by hundreds of calories depending on rice served, cut of meat, and oil. The range is the honest answer for an estimate made without seeing the plate.

Is this accurate enough to track with?

It is good enough to make a decision — whether a second helping fits your day, say. For logging you actually want to rely on, photograph the plate in the Thaya app and correct the breakdown it gives you.

Does the calculator count the sauce and garnish?

A small amount of cooked onion and tomato base is included where the dish normally has it. Extra daqoos, salad, nuts, raisins and bread are not — add those separately.
